Is It Safe to Upload Your Photo to an AI Video App?
What happens to your photo when you make an AI trend video, what to check before you upload, and how ZapVid handles photos, consent and deletion.

Quick answer
You can upload a photo to an AI video app safely if the app tells you four things: who processes the photo, whether anyone trains AI models on it, how long the app keeps it, and how you delete it. On ZapVid, we use your photo to make the video you asked for and to run safety checks. We do not train AI models on it and we never sell it. Your videos stay in your account for 30 days, and you can ask us to delete your photos, videos and account at any time.
What happens to my photo when I make an AI video?
- You upload it. Your photo travels over an encrypted connection, and we store it privately.
- Our automatic checks run. Before we make the video, automated systems look for nudity, people who appear to be under 18, more than one person in your own photo, and well-known public figures. The result decides one thing: whether we can make the video.
- The AI model makes the video. We send the photo to an AI video model provider, and its model places the person in the template's scene.
- You download the video. It stays in your account for 30 days.
- We delete the copies. We keep a private copy of photos and videos for a limited time to look into problems and answer payment disputes, then our system deletes it. Our Privacy Policy lists the exact times.
What should I check before uploading my photo to any AI app?
- Training. Does the app say it does not train AI models on your photos? If it says nothing, assume it might.
- Retention. Does it tell you how long it keeps your photos, and does it delete them on a schedule?
- Deletion. Can you ask it to delete your photos and account, and does it give you an email or a button for that?
- Selling and sharing. Does it promise not to sell your photos? Does it list the kinds of companies it shares them with?
- Consent for other people. Does it ask you to confirm that everyone in the photos agreed?
- Safety checks. Does it block photos of children, nudity and public figures? An app that blocks these makes it harder for someone else to misuse your face too.
How does ZapVid handle my photos?
- Only for your video. We use your photo to make and deliver your video and to run safety checks.
- No training, no sale. We do not train AI models on your photos or videos, we do not give our providers permission to train on them, and we never sell, lease or trade them.
- No face template. We do not use your photos to identify you, and we do not create or keep a face template.
- 30 days in your account. Download the videos you want to keep. You can remove a video from your account sooner.
- Delete on request. Email us from the address on your account and we delete your photos, videos and account within 30 days.
- Consent every time. Each time you press Generate, you confirm that the photos show you or adults who agreed.
Can I upload a photo of my friend?
Yes, if your friend is an adult and agreed to be in the video. We built group templates like Burning Bridges and Hotel Lobby for this. Do not upload photos of anyone who did not agree, of children, or of celebrities and public figures. We block these or our terms forbid them.
Should I tell people the video is AI?
Yes. Label the video as AI-generated when you post. TikTok and Instagram both offer an AI label, and using it keeps your account in good standing. Your viewers also know the scene did not happen.
